as far as the GSM being a monster the small male is def a monster but the female was very nice and bever nipped at me but the male even chaces the mag float!!! He is mean I tell ya..

You will find that even when things die,they drop off things that decompose.I know,sounds pretty yucky,but it happens.So your residual oil slick(ammonia)might cause the zoas/palys to close.It could even cause greater harm that what was done in my tank when I had a large serpent star die.When things like this(die) is adds to the nightime CUC.I have Massive amounts of brissle worms now.Other folks that have been in this situation will tell you.

my hermits and snails were all over the GSM when I found it and now my large brissle star seems to stay right where the GSM died and even after I moved it twice he went right back to the same place.. maybe something still there?? I took out the GSM yesterday...

yeah.. it has been up and running for a while now prob close to 6-7 months.. Maybe I under fed??? I was feeding lightly every other day to every 3 days...

That wouldn't be it. Many people only feed their fish every 2 or 3 days. I usually feed my fish 4-5 times a week but sometimes I go 3 days without feeding them. I actually was on vacation for 6 days and had no one to feed them and they were fine. It is better to slightly under feed then over feed IMO

As others have said, ca at 500+ and alk at 10 is not only NOT ideal, but is likely a problem (and maybe not even possible at a normal PH and SG).

If those numbers are correct (and not test error), what is your salinity? (and how are you checking it)? One of the only ways to have high alk and Ca is if the salinity is elevated. If your checking with a swing arm hydrometer there is a very good chance it is giving a false reading.

Oh, and not to beat a dead horse, but if your LFS is telling you that your Ca should be higher than 450, well, I would take their advice with a grain of salt.

My advice righ now would be to have another LFS, or another reefer double check your SG and Ca. You probably have some test error that explains what's going on. (again, swing arm hydrometers can cause a lot of error, and minor details on how you use some Ca kits can cause false high readings)

how did ur gsm die from that my tank had a rlly bad out break from mag alm and trats all at the same time and he is still kicking after 2 years of a bad tank lmao so it must b something else that killed her not the water ... did she eat?
