Anenomoe with Corals

Hi everyone,

I have placed my first coral in the tank, it is a dunkin and it only has one head at the moment. We are looking to continue with corals slowly if I can keep this one alive and thriving. We currently have 2 clarkii clown fish in there that are not a mated pair(yet I hope). We are looking to get an anenomoe to place in the tank for them to play in but do not want it to kill off my corals when I get them up and running. What are your suggestions and experiences with picking out an anenomoe

First you want to check to see what nems your particular clowns will host in. Conviently Clarkis host in pretty much all the commonly kept nems.

As far as actual compatibility between nems and corals it gets iffy. Most nems will sting many/most corals. Some corals will tolerate contact with some nems and some will not. Most LPS corals are at least somewhat tolerant, but it can still be hit or miss.

Also consider light levels. It looks like your light isn't super intense, so if you do get a nem get one that will tolerate somewhat moderate light. (bubble tips are probably your best bet, they are hardy, available captive raised/split, they are only mildly aggressive, will tolerate moderate light, and clarki's will host in them)

it's also a good idea to put your anemone in before you add too many other corals. If they don't like where you put them they will simply go elsewhere. This can be problemmatic if when it's moveing it is stinging/killing other corals. So if your going to add one do a bit of research on which to get and then once you put it in give it time to get settled in.

One other thing I have forgotten more than once shut off your power heads when you put them in the tank until they settle. Go for an rbta best color and mine stay .

Yea, good point Lisa.

Anemones and power heads don't mix well.

I currently do not have any power heads in my tank. I think my GPH is in the 800's

I think it took my BTA about a month to finally make up his mind and settle in to a spot. He had two encounters with my Tunze's, but luckily he only suffered light damage both times. I still have nightmares about that though. Not something you like to see.

my bubble tip makes a DAILY voyage to the front of a rock, then back for the night. it is ridiculous. Im hoping he settles in soon, he has been in the tank for months!

They will sting your corals while moving, but just stay on top of it, if you see them in contact, move the coral for the time being. You can just kind of pave a path for the nem to move, when it gets settled, it will usually stay for a bit. "ususally".
