We already have numerous items that will be available for auction. More are being received every day. There will be tanks, complete tank systems, lighting units, protein skimmers, pumps, heaters, dry rock substrate, test kits, books, new metal halide bulbs, fish food, calcium and alkalinity supplements, coral and fish food, water conditioners/additives, powerheads/wavemaking devices, cool fishy shirts, livestock (mostly corals), and probably other stuff I've not remembered available at the auction. There will be a web site set up with photos, descriptions, and specifications of the stuff up for auction. The site will probably not be available until soon before the auction, look for announcements on this.

There will also be a raffle, and door prizes awarded.

More Details about the Auction:

Fees:

Just as last year, there will be an admission fee of $5 for members (must be up-to-date with your membership dues), $20 for non-members. Anyone can join the club or renew at the door. More info on club benefits (why you should join) are here http://www.bostonreefers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=49878

The admission fee gets you your numbered 'Paddle' for bidding, pizza at lunch time (show your paddle), and a chance to win a bunch of door prizes (the exact prizes will be announced later).

Again, the details..........

When:

Saturday, Oct 20, 2007. Registration will begin at 11 AM. Auction will start at high noon.

Payment:

Cash, check (members only), or Paypal. We are reasonably certain that we will be able to do Paypal at the auction, but if there are technical glitches it might not happen.

Bring:

Bring coolers with you for all the livestock you weren't planning on buying.

Where: Hilton Garden Inn, Waltham, MA. 420 Totten Pond Road, Waltham.

Other notes: We are not asking for donations from members for this auction as last year we had so much stuff we were running longer than 4 hours! But, if you are Really itching for something you'd like to donate, let me (Greg Hiller) know by PM.

darn! oct 20..of course ill still be in hawaii. would have been nice to go to the oct meeting

Yeah, Hawaii must be terrible.:rolleyes::p

David and I hope to come to this and we'd be happy to help if we can attend. Well, David will definately be there, I'll have to see if I can maybe just work a half day that day so I can attend as well.

Just a note for those unaware...
Funds raised in these auctions help in part to pay for guest speakers, meeting venues, and for these forums. :)

Out of curiosity what "livestock" as far as corals will be up for auction. IS there a sneak peek?

Ohhh maybe I can score my new tank:)

We will have photos of the stuff available (including livestock) for viewing prior to the meeting. We won't likely have this stuff posted until pretty close to the auction.

Greg:

I know that you said stuff will be posted pretty close to the auction but do you have an estimate as to when?

Thanks.

>I know that you said stuff will be posted pretty close to the auction but do you have an estimate as to when?<

Depends a bit upon when we get stuff, which is largely dependent on our sponsors. We have a decent amount of stuff now, but we've always been reluctant in the past to make the web site public until there is a lot of stuff on it. Many people will take one, and only one look at the web site, and if they don't see enough will say....'heck, I'm goin' to mall instead of the auction on Saturday.'

I think we will have the web site public with whatever we have at that point by Tuesday of next week. Possibly by part way though this weekend.

I am very excited about this. Been a member for over a year but last year I missed both auctions because I was on a weekend schedule.

Can't wait to see what is posted. I can't really say I have been dying to go to a meeting except for this...the BIG ONE!:)

Hoping to score a new tank, or a controller is any are there!! So if there are any controllers everybody back off:D

Hmmm tom looks like i'm gonna have to break out my super duper secret savings account :D

if i wanted to bring someone with me as company, who is not bidding (not even a reefer, what a shame), do they need to pay admission also?

Exactly what I was thinking...what if I want to bring my wife for approval?

Greg, a couple other questions....

What about kids? My 7 year old is a 'member'. I upgraded to the family plan so she could have a card. Does she pay admission? Does my 3 year old? If it's to defray pizza, fine. Can you clarify this please?
