Another batch of eggs

saltnut

Pay it forward
Yesterday after hours of cleaning. My clowns laid another batch of eggs. The previous batch was gone 3 days prior. This makes 3 batches in about 6 weeks. They seem to work so hard at cleaning a spot then tending the eggs. I am getting nervous that theey are going to sick from trying to much. Is that stupid?

Sounds pretty standard. Once they get on schedual (depending on the type of clown) they will lay a patch a few days after the hatch of the last one over and over. I would make sure the female is getting a good diet as it will take a lot out of her, but this is what clowns do. If you are interested, you could try raising a clutch of eggs.

I just do not have the room for a breeding tank. Also do not think I could have a good supply of food for the fry. The current tank is in the living room even if I left the tank lights off there is natural light and room light. Years ago I read that the eggs must be kept in the dark untill hatching. Does any one know if that is still a valid theory? I am more worried about my fish. I keep thinking of the saying "or die trying". This pair has always laid batches of eggs. They just seem to be more determined right now.

My clowns have been laying eggs for quite a while now
No ill effects, they do the same thing in the ocean

It shouldn't hurt them. The female can go on like that with a good diet for 20+ years and die of old age, then the male will step up and become the female. In the tank and in the wild they have no idea if the babies survive after hatching.

I have not hatched any babies yet, but you can culture the rotifers they need to eat and some species of clowns can even have small survival rates on flake. You can use construction paper to black out the fry tank. It is ok if the eggs are lighted before they hatch.

My skunks now seem to be on a regular schedule too.

i wish my clowns would lay eggs so i can try raising the little ones. i would love to just collect some eggs form someone who isnt raising them, but id have to set up a rotofer collonly and greenwater sea first...... which woudl take two weeks or so. Maybe once i get my sump up ill do all that then look for osmeone with some eggs.*hint*;)
