any good tricks to catching a blenny

My blue and gold blenny is going back. Definitely not reefsafe.

Any good tricks to catching him??

I have the net hanging out in the water hoping he gets used to it. I'm just waiting for him to swim near it. Any bets as to how long, I started at 4 .

Thanks, I'll try the inverted soda bottle. As for the mysis, he only eats algae and my corals. Maybe I'll put one of my sps in the net, that should attract him.

Hate to say it,but you're screwed.lol
I tried to catch a blenny once.I hope I'll never have to do it again.
I removed every rock and couldn't catch it.The darn thing was in a crevice in the rock.
Ended up,I had to blast him out with a turkey baster.
Good luck.


BTW,why would you say NOT reef safe????

the easiest way is to watch where he sleeps,then during lights out shove a load of epoxy over the hole,not the nicest method ,but it will save tearing the tank apart.
I had no luck with traps and blennies,they are too smart.

Ouch, tough love. I'll save this as a last resort. I'm may try to see if can capture him where he sleeps.

If you can get to where he sleeps easily,you could try siphoning him out with large diameter pipe

He nipped 2 favia and an open brain nearly to death, killed? (still hoping he'll come back) my coco worm, and has been attacking the few SPS I have. I had heard they may on occasion nip on some SPS but this guy is crazy. He's got a full belly and looks cool but is very crazy.

Depending on how large your tank is you could try all those things or get a clear glass and put it in the water. Chase him with the net into the glass. I caught my butterfly the other day that was eating my corals. I had to take some rock out but i did catch him after about 15 minuttes.

Victory is mine!! Finally.

I turned the lights of early tonight, saw him sleeping on the frag rack, slipped a tupperware container in the tank then over the frag rack against the glass, pulled the outside magnet off the rack, slid the top on the container and pulled it out. Yipee!!

He'll have a night in the tupperware then back to the store tomorrow. Too bad, it was a cool fish. I'll try again after all my coral recover.
