They both look awesome. I've seen a few tank threads with them and it seems they tend to stay put around structure unless feeding. But they school.

We have a threadfin in the elos tank, pretty cool fish but it does hide all day until you feed. They can be poor shippers, but are very hardy once acclimated.

No, they are not more active in a school. They appear to be nocturnal. Mine hide during the day, but will jump out to take a piece of food. Once the lights go out, they start swimming around. I had six, but 4 vanished soon after they went into the tank. I have 2 left that have been with me a while now. They are very beautiful, but you rarely see them. I believe I bought them from Jeremy:)

I had a school of them in a 300gal. for a while.(about 15 of them) They started to form pairs and trios after a while. But when bigger or more active fish would swim by they sure would school up together, it was really cool.

I think the Orange lined are more likely to stay out in the open, but less likely to school.
And as Jeremy mentioned the Threadfins can be poor shippers. (partly because they get shipped out of the south Pacific in bags that are barely any bigger than the fish themselves.

check out chalk bass paul, you may be very surprised by them. In the same price range as those cardinals, with a nice look to them, and they do school quite well IMO. Stay small, and are easy to care for...

The triggers are great. They don't have much interest in each other though. The female is still very shy.

I currently have 7 of the threadfins, I started out with 8 of them and one vanished in the first few days but the others have been together for about a year and a half now. They are out all the time mostly in the upper half of the water column and scattered around the tank sometimes in small groups, early morn and in the eve when the MHs go out they are in a tight school sometimes they chase of of the larger ones out but he doesnt go far from the group. At night they are all over the tank swimming around, if I am watching TV late night I will look at the tank and the light from the TV lights it up enough that I can see what is going on and they seem to be playing and chasing each other, they are defiantly more active at night.
I was going to add a group of the orange line but I think I am going to either add a group of chromis or more anthias as well as a few more threadfins

Your welcome to come by and check them out anytime you are in the area if you want to see them in person. Also if you let me know when you order I would be interested in some to cut down shipping if you dont get them local, or even if we order a bunch to get a better deal on them.

I have 4 (started with 5) in a 350gal. They do tend to stick together but in definite pairs. The only time the break off is when the males have eggs every other week or so.

They eat together and come out more at night. Other than that they tend to stick to the one side. just hovering for most of the day.

Hmmm, maybe with larger numbers they are more active during the daylight hours. Methinks I should try again ......

i was cra today and i saw him/her nice fish looked good

I have a school of the orange lined cardinals. They are one of my favorite small fish. Very nice looking.

It seems everyone is happy with these fish. I think I would rather go with either of these guys than a school of chromis.

She's playing hard to get. ;)

Both ideas sound good to me. When is a good time to swing by? My brother is in Peabody. His house is off of Lynnfield St. Are you by any chance near there?

I am not far from the end of it near the rotary/rt 1/rt 95 (about 1.5 miles)
I am around most of the time
