Anyone thinking of getting a chiller?

I heard that chiller doesn't last long. A new one may be better.

and they cost some serious money also.

Ray,
myself does not know much about Chiller and the brands, you are in the business so would you recommend on some brands? then some rating?(like for tank size vs hp). and also the pricing associated with the rating/tank size.

I am going to pass. Picked one up last weekend.
Thanks anyways and good luck with the group buy if it is a go

I would think the the life of a chiller would be no less than the life of an air conditioning system on your car.

Steve

with so many tank in a room, I think I need an AC instead.

Just an idea...
you could buy an outlet controller that is temperature monitored and hook that up to a small a/c unit that just blows cold air toward the tank glass...
Glass doesnt conduct temperature well but with an AC blowing on it...I think that would be quite effective...
Ebay- controller I saw costs about 25$ that's made of plastic with adjustable temperature dial (not digital). Try a search for beer freezer temperature controller (beer or wine or something of that sort)

329$ for pacific coast 1/10HP on ebay shipped!
do search from home page...

I think that's a pretty good deal I've seen yet...

The problem with this is that the AC unit won't cycle as quickly or as effectively as a smaller chiller that's hitting the water directly. It will also not really have a line of demarcation, meaning that it's spewing (unless ducted) the heat it's taking from the air right back into the air you're trying to cool. Unless it's sitting in the window, of course.

Now if you keep the room at 72 with an AC unit in the window, then it's a constant temp that your heater (and electric bill) can keep up with. Provided of course you can close off that room.

Count me in on a larger cooler. I just bought a 1/5 HP one and quite frankly, I am not sure it will keep up.

I have a 90G display and I will have a 650g sump in the basement. Who knows, maybe it will???
