Apex Net Connectivity

Looking to see if someoen can help me with my Apex.

I had to send it in for repair and i cannot get it to hook back up to the net. It currently worked before. I've tried to follow the unfficial guide but no luck. I am able to connect to it from inside my home network but not from the outside.

What I've done:
- previous dyndns name seems to be working
- inside my belkin router, the apex is set up and port 1111 is identified
- the IP address from the router was input into the apex unit and the port was changed to 1111
- DCHP is turned off

I'm at work so I can only answer so much now but from the above, does it sound like I'm missing anything? The only thing that changed was the apex so i think i could be missing something there........what i did inside the apex was turned off the DCHP, input the IP address assigned to the apex from the router and changed the port to 1111 from 80.

Any help?

From your explanation I would double check if your dyndns is active. I had the same problem and it was the dyndns was not active. You don't have to take out DHCP, you can reserve an IP address for your apex. If you want pm your number and when you get out of work, I can help you.

Good luck

Thanks, might take you up on it. I do believe the dyndns is updated, the thing on my computer says it is active and signing into the website, the ip address it shows matches what i get in the whatsmyipaddress.com.......but then again i don't trust anything!

Agreed. Probably your dyndns might have been turned off. Just as an FYI if you go on neptunes website and go to their forum everyone on there is super helpful. When I had an issue with mine I posted in that forum and I got it fixed in 15 minutes. All else fails call neptune, their support is great.

How should I validate the dyndns? I just logged into their site and it seems active and it shows as active on my cpu.

Can you ping your DynDNS address from work? Do you get a response? (You may not, depending on how you have things configured.)

Why did you change the port on the Apex from 80 to 1111?

Depending on your provider, you may need to change/open a different external port, like 1111, but then you tell your router to forward packets coming in from port 1111 to your Apex, on your local network, to 111.222.333.444:80. No need to change the Apex port unless you have other reasons.

So:

1) Is DynDNS working? Can you ping your router/cable modem/etc. that is listening on the other end? If the DynDNS software reports everything is ok then I'd assume it is and move on.
2) Does your provider block any ports? If 80 isn't blocked then there is no need to change the port (unless you're also running a webserver or something else at home).
3) Put your Apex on the local network, figure out it's IP Address, whether DHCP or reserved/hard-coded. Make sure that works locally.
4) Configure your router PORT FORWARDING to take any incoming traffic from port 80 (or whatever) and forward it to your Apex using the right INTERNAL IP ADDRESS and PORT
5) Save the ROUTER changes, sometimes you might need to force a reboot of the router to get the changes to work
6) Attempt to connect to your Apex from outside your network; from work or a smart phone browser with WIFI turned OFF (you don't want to be on your local network)

I'll take some screen shots when i get home. Obviously i've done something wrong! I thought it would be simple to reset it up because i only had to realign the apex. my dyndns name is bryansreef.dyndns-at-home.com and the port was 1111 but i don't get anything from an external computer.

I dont own an apex but i would first eliminate dyndns out of the equation.
Try using your external ip address and port to see if you can connect. Would look something like http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1111 where the xxx are your external ip and the 1111 the port number your trying to use.

If it doesnt work then the issue is not dyndns but your router/firewall. If it does, you know dyndns is set incorrectly.

My guess is you have dynamicly assigned ip addresses from your router. When you removed the apex from your network, something else took its IP address and when you added it back, the router assigned it a different number. Check to make sure you have port forwarding setup correctly in your router and that the ip address of the apex and port number are correct.

OK gents.....pics as promised. Really appreciate your help:
dyndns:

DHCP list in router:

apex IP in router:

local (net) control:

It looks right to me but I can't connect either.

I tried both the IP:PORT and DNS:PORT address types and neither worked. Also tried to ping both and neither responded.

If you click the REFRESH IP does it stay the same or change?

Damn! I hit refresh and it didn't change.... This is what's killing me.

Try changing your router to redirect port 80 (external) to the apex on internal port 1111 and try both addresses (IP and DNS) without the :1111

Also, did you save/reboot your router since making these changes? I'd enable the router to respond to PING requests, change the forwarding, then save the settings and reboot the router.

ok inbound port changed to 80, wan ping allowed and the router and apex have been restarted.

I can ping you now! Both by IP and DNS.

Tried both addresses from IE with no port and still can't connect to the Apex page. If you ping the internal IP for the Apex do you get a response? It works with the internal IP right?

Trying to think what else it could be.

What ever IP address you used to log on to your router.... ex: 192.168.2.1

I believe the default for belkin routers is 192.168.2.1

edit: I'm now getting a prompt to log in with credentials with your IP and dyndns address. I don't have an apex so I'm not 100% sure thats it...
