Apex question

Going to Florida for a couple of weeks in March and getting my Apex ready. I've had this Apex for a year now but still a beginner just yesterday I managed to get Fusion running I had been running Apex Classic for much of the year after Fusion failed to "connect". I will need Fusion to check on the tank from Florida but it tends to disconnect and when that happens I use the display module to reconnect, my question is their a way to reconnect using my IPhone, if so I cant find it.

Jim

I really wish I knew the answer to that question... I have to reboot mine every so often to reconnect. I do not have them hardwired with cat5 - they go into a wireless repeater.

I'm not familiar with Apex but for my profilux and cloud base control, having it hardwired and using DHCP reservation to point the profilux to have a specific local IP solves all the issue I had.
Try searching DHCP reservation on your wifi router settting and point the Apex to have a certain IP address like 192.168.1.30. Every local device that connects to your network will have a local IP of 192.168.1.xx. Starting from 00. If you have many devices connected to to the same network, one day your Apex could be 192.168.1.05. A week later, it could be 192.167.1.15. Having one local IP reserved for the Apex will ensure that it will always have that same local IP address. Even if the Apex has lost its connection to the network, the next time it connects, it will be assigned to the same IP you set it to.

I don't have this issue with the apex.it always reconnects after a powerfailure or whatever. Is your apex hard wired or are you using a wireless Bridge?

Using a wireless bridge, I can run a cable to the tank from my router while in Florida if you think that would help.

Jim

I cannot say with certainty but I'm hard wired and I drop maybe once a year where I need to manually reset it. Every other time it loads right back up

I have the same issue, requiring to reboot the network bridge once in a while. It could be that I have a lot of electronics in the room eating up the WIFI bandwidth. Therefore, when I go on vacation I hardwire a cat5 to the router.

Do you find hardwiring it helps Jeff?

I used to use a wireless bridge for the TV in the living room as we pretty much only stream since we killed cable. I had trouble with the wireless bridge losing connection a lot. I ended up running CAT5 through the house. all of our stationary gadgets are hardwired

I'm currently running the same system - Apex connected to a wireless bridge. I'm a software guy, I know wireless stuff it's shockingly simple - but kinda like math, I'm just not interested in learning///

If there's some dead nuts expert here - I'd fund a friggen keg... use my setup as a learning environment ...invite the club...

i travel for work almost weekly, and have the apex. i had some serious issues with disconnects at first. i worked with support at apex and they installed some beta software on my unit. since then, no reboots necessary. if you are concerned, you could try emailing them and explaining the situation and your concerns. maybe they could install the beta software for you as well.

I have mine hooked up to cat 6 and it still needs to have the apex reset every month or so to reconnect it

So far it has, knocks on wood**

Thanks for the input everyone, still not sure on my original question..... Is there a way to reboot Fusion WITHOUT using the display module as the cord will not reach Orlando.

Jim

Jim I would call APEX, and like Nick said thats your issue. they can go online and se tit up and make sure its configured properly. It sounds like your Apex gets confused with something else on your network.

Good Luck Derek

I have mine hardwired with cat6, and have never had to reboot (3 years). Are you running the latest firmware (on all coponents)?
Depending on your router, your DHCP settings could be the cause. Do you have a static IP assigned?

Try rebooting and see if it helps.
From the display module->Display menu, System->Net setup->Restart.
There's also a reboot option on the Network and Misc pages in the classic dashboard.
Reboot cannot be done through APEX Fusion or the iOS or Android apps.

I have had this Apex about a year but used the Classic and not Fusion because of connection problems I know how to reboot with both but the only one I can use on my Florida vacation is Fusion and I guess I can't Reboot that from a remote location is this true????? I would continue to use Classic if I could access it from Florida but its not possible is it????? I would like to update software to the latest but reading the instructions I'm lost. I really need to fix this before my March vacation because the chance of Fusion keeping it's connection for two weeks is about zero. I will try Apex service but they have been little help in the past and my computer skills are poor at best I get quickly lost.

You should be able to access remotely with Classic. That is what everyone did prior to Fusion being introduced. The directions can be found here starting on page 30, 35, and 38.

As far as updating the software, chapter 12 of the link above should help you through.

When all else fails, the Neptune Systems Forum is a great resource.

I wish i had read this earlier, i was in St. Lucia last week and had very limited internet service. when i did find some Wifi i tried to check on apex but it said it was disconnected and couldn't figure it out. I was stressing out big time. I have always been running it wireless and never ever had any issues until i went on vaca.. go figure!! i think ill be switching over to a wired connection just to be on the safe side from now on.

Mike, you're an electrician you should hardwire all your streaming stationary devices.. much faster then wifi...WiFi is only for phones, tablets, and laptops. Imo

i was being lazy and didn't feel like running a wire at the time, besides im pulling down close to 120 mbs over wifi with my other devices.
