Wondering what people use in the way of a skimmer for a 10 gallon tank. looking to start anano type set up. Small amount of rock, a soft coral or two and a few small fish.

I was up at AG this past weekend and they had a very cute looking in-tank air driven skimmer, was about 10" tall maybe 3" in diameter, in the nano they have on the counter. Said they are about $40. Looked like it was working well, pulling crud out. Not sure the brand but I am sure they could tell you.

How about going skimmerless?
I maintained a 10 gallon nano for about a year without a skimmer.
The bioload was pretty light - a single watchman goby, and a mixture of small corals.
With weekly water changes I was able to maintain decent water quaility - not the pristine waters of a killer SPS type of tank, but it looked nice and was a fun project.

Hey Cliff, any of the CPR backpak, etc type skimmers would probably be fine.

Considering that a 10% water change is less than a gallon, you'd probably be fine skimmerless. Sounds like you're not doing SPS anyways, so might be a good option for a softy tank.

For softies, you're probably fine, but for SPS, etc, like Randy has said, water changes are not a great way to control nutrients. You simply can't get them low enough.
