ASM G3 Charlie Veron Edition

The new ASM fully modified G3 Charlie Veron Edition
Picked this up from Mauro at the meeting and asked Dr Veron to sign it. He said he was honored, he'd never been asked to sign a piece of equipment. Hopefully I'll fire it up tonight.

Just fired it up and I'm pretty impressed, especially with the mods that are on the skimmer. The gate valve dialed it in immediately, the feed mod is working well with a MJ400, all in combination with a recirc mod. I think it may possibly be mesh modded, but I haven't looked at the impeller.
It's just really simple when compared to my AquaC, which I still have running. The Sedra 5000 is an impressive pump, sucking a huge amount of air.

I wish I would have Charlie Veron moded my Euroreef. I'll bet it pulls like 2x more skimmate.

The recirc mod makes a closed loop to skim with, after doing this, there's no way to for the skimmer to be fed. The feed mod, feeds the skimmer with a pump that's rated for about 200 gph.

OH I get the feed mod now, but why such a low GPH, with the recirc mod wouldn't you want it to handle as much water as it can handle?

JME...but I don't think you need to run much GPH through the skimmer.
My G2(recirc/gate mods) is hooked to the overflow and my guess is I'm sending about 300 GPH through that.About 60 GPH goes through the refugium and about 60 GPH goes through a reverse durso with a filter sock and carbon.
The rest is given to the head pressure angels(12 ft.).

According to Aquatic Systems Engineering: Devices and How They Function, the flow rate through the skimmer should be based on the total system volume with a ratio of 75gph per 100g. This is written about counter-current skimmers but I don't see why it wouldn't apply to this application. Basically some proteins need as much as 2min of surface contact to be skimmed out and pushing watter though to fast reduces the contact time..

Nature I think the sedra 5000 is pulling about 17scfh. I could check again if you'd like.

Reef, as a general rule of thumb you'd push about 1.5x your total water volume through a recirc skimmer.

Alpha I have heard that the two minute dwell time is really "the best" for some skimmers as you've mentioned
