Auto Water Change Salinity Question

At 35 ppt, it is not close to saturation at 68F nor 78F.
If the automatic water change system replaces like 2 to 3% of total volume per day, there is no need to heat the water.
Heating the water is perfectly fine too, just a little bit more electricity consumption.
Thanks Dong. What’s your thoughts on circulating vs stagnant water?

I believe it makes little difference for automatic water change as only a small percentage water is changed.
But for large water changes, circulating the new water is important to keep the new water oxygen rich.

I appreciate the insight!

If you are doing auto water changes I would think about a salinity monitor. I have one and it saved me. My salt line got clogged and so the pump to remove water was removing more than I was putting in

My ato was working so it was making up the difference. If it wasn’t for my salinity monitor I might not have seen it right away

I still check manually but a salinity monitor is a life saver.

It’s on my apex so if my salinity drops too low or too high I shut down the auto change till I can investigate

That's a good idea. I have an apex but I'm not sure if I have the ability to monitor salinity. It's an EL and didn't come with the salinity probe. Maybe there's an option to add a module or something. Is it fairly accurate?

I got mine with my apex. I agree that’s nuts they weren’t that expensive before. Keep your eyes out sometimes they pop up here with a pm2.

I would not pay that just for the probe.

Thats also the Lab grade probe. Those are crazy expensive. Not sure why they dont have the cheap ones anymore on BRS

Because the cheaper ones just don’t cut it. They cause more problems than their worth.

Been using one for a long time. They need recalibrating but has not been way off. Just enough for me to keep an eye on it
