Bad anemone luck (sorry Delta) :-(

Moe_K

Stabbed by Foulke
Delta was nice enough to give me a frag of his bubble tip anemone.
I acclimated the thing slowly. It was looking good even during acclimation.
After a few hours of drip acclimation, I put the anemone onto the top of my rock work, near the light and also near a dark cave. Figured it could duck into the cave if it wanted.
It secured its foot to my rock and was spreading both under the rock and out and around the rock - reaching for light.
I figured it was good to go.
Yesterday I cam home from work and couldn't find the anemone. I looked around a lot, but didn't move any rocks.
After a few hours of casual observation, I saw the fish draging pieces of the anemone around the substrate.
Seems the new guy walked into one of my MJ mods and experienced death by La Machine. :(
My anemone luck is bad.

Sorry to hear that Moe. I read about this alot. Makes me nervous when I am ready to get one.

I need to get the powerheads secured to the sides of the tank and off the rocks. Stupid me.

Sorry to hear Moe, my BTA (same as your old one) is looking like it may split, it is forming a line down the middle of it. If it ever does, I'll let you know. You'll have good luck with this one I hope ;)

sorry to hear that. They are what killed Brians Molly Miller. It almost sucked in one of our baby clowns and he decided to change to a modified MJ

Oh Moe, I am sorry to hear that
Thanks for your sympathy.
I feel bad for Mr. & Mrs. Delta. They went through the trouble of getting me the clone, and I killed it right quick.

Sorry to hear Moe

I know you like fish goo but I think your taking it a little
too far

I am sure Heather will have something to say
(The pregnancy bear awaits you)

LMK once you get that tank anemone safe :)

Aww, man! Another one, Moe!

Yes, probably a good idea not to have a wannabe food processor where the anemone will walk. Lesson learned, I'm sure. :)

Third times a charm. ;)

This may be a stupid ? but if I don't ask I won't learn. Has there ever been an association to movement related to certain color BTA's? I only ask because my Green BTA at home stay's put while the RBTA in my shop tank is really ancey (sp?) and always moving. less flow in the shop tank.

I actually changed from the modified MaxiJets to the Tunze Nano Streams.

And sorry Moe for your loss.

All BTAs can move and even if they are comfortable and happy, they will often up and move before a split. It is a really god idea to protect powerhead intakes with something like black craft mesh.

If there are any substantial chuncks, don't give up on them, Moe. They do have a slim, but fighting chance of bouncing back even if they are just a fraction of the anemone.

This is a recently set up tank, right? From what I know, anemones move around until they are happy, then they stay put, unless they split, then the clone may move away. I could be wrong, but that is how I understand it.

Edit: Cindy had better advice! :D

Just curious though, I'm aware that they can all move and look for their "happy place" but I was curious as to whether or not there has ever been "documentation" on certain BTA's moving around more than others? again sorry if thats a silly ?.

Yup, and thanks, the shop tank is new and I figured it was just searching much like my Green BTA did at first, this one just moves a lot. Just figured I'd ask, don't know why you guys have to jump all over me - forget it:D :D J/K.

Are there any caves in the rockwork of that tank?

(BTW...so sorry for trying to answer your questions! :p )

Yup, a few caves - not a ton as it's the 22gal, he was heading up the glass today. No Ph's to worry about.

Things seem "testy" lately round here (Holidays maybe?) so I just wanted to play too.;)

Sorry for your loss Moe.
