Here's the best I could get of the male. He stays hidden and pushes her out to test the water....

This is kind of shadowed, one side of the tanks lights had shut off for the night.

Hey Jeff:
I bought one of these from AA about 6 month ago. What a great fish, beautiful. I was told, at the time, that it was a bicolor anthias. Any idea if they are Barlett's or bicolor for sure?

Also, mine swam out in the open very freely for months. But after about 4 months, it went stir crazy, absolutley insane, darting all over, very odd behavior. So, I found out that the males feel the need to dominate over a harum of 6-10 females. And for this reason, they have some trouble long-term in a tank without a bunch of females to dominate over. I just wanted to give you some warning, and tell you my experience with him. I have thought about getting rid of him to a bigger tank, or to someone with more. I am very interested to hear how yours behave after 6 months or so.

Also, recently (3 weeks) the pair of clowns (ocellaris) have been kicking the anthias's butt. Very aggressive, and the anthias has lost much of its tail, and has gone into hiding.

If Jeff wishes to chime in he's more than welcome! :D

In the meantime I'll try to answer to the best of my ability.
The Bicolor and the Bartlett's look alot alike but the Barlett's have more of a pink belly (females) and the males are pink with much less yellow and have a pink stripe from nose to eyes. The shape of the mouths is also different. The Barlett's is pointier with the upper lip protruding out past the lower while the Bicolor has a more rounded mouth with the lips coming together more evenly.

I only have the pair, but from what I understand I can add more females without to much trouble later. Adding additional males should be avoided unless they're in a very large tank. I have already noticed that the male is very dominate over the female (unlike clowns). The hardest part to keeping the Barlett's is feeding. Many will not eat in captivity. I watched mine eat at AquaAddicts before I bought them and I fed them again soon after acclimating. These guys are eating like pigs so I hope that they'll be OK.

Later,
Darren

Dammit
Sorry about that, reading and replying to multiple threads...

sounds like we are on the same level with the anthias.
