Basic frag question

Well these are some of my favorite Zoos but they are really starting to grow fast. This is roughly a 9 X 9 patch of them. They are starting to grow over certain corals. My question is how difficult is it, if even possible to frag these in the tank without tearing my rock work apart. I would like to take about 50% of them out.

If you can't move the rock they are on, try placing smaller chunks of LR / rubble on the edges of the zoa colony. They will grow onto it, then you can inch them away and slice free with a razor blade if needed.

With a single-edge razor blade, it is possible to separate the network of zoas from the base rock. Of course, "possible" is a relative term. The more irregular the rock surface, the more difficult the separation. In the best case, you'll get groups of 10-15 zoas. If you really don't want them to come back, run a toothbrush over the remains, and repeat weekly for several weeks.

That's why experienced reefers prefer to grow their zoas on rock islands. Of course, zoas have a tendency to separate and populate other areas of your tank, where "island" doesn't apply.
