Best HOB Skimmer

22engine

Ok so all I need for my 45 gallon cube non reef ready is filtration. I keep going back and forth on what to do. Should I get a hob skimmer and if so what's the best? I will add a BRS reactor down the road. Or should I get a hob fuge. Help me. Keep going back and forth. Thanks

I know I'm still very new in the hobby, but from the research I've done. It is always better to go with something bigger than the recommended. That being said, you should get a HOB that is rated to about 75 gallons or more, such as i had at first. I had a CPR Aero Force http://www.cpraquatic.com/products/aeroforce.html. I have never had any mechanical filtration. And my system has always been progressing very well. for the first 6 months, that HOB Skimmer was the bread and butter of my system (apart from my live rock).I just upgraded to a bigger skimmer because i decided to build my Sump/Refugium. What are you exactly planning on having in this 45?

I have the aqua c remora hob skimmer that I got from a fellow reefer and it works great! Going on 6 months fully running and haven't had any problems with the tank. A little cyano breakout but already going away after one water change. I have nothing to compare it too but it works great for me. I have a 46gal tank btw

I have the reef octopus bh 90 and this thing works like crazy pulls out some real nasty black stuff that stinks like crazy

Anyone know who stocks the aqua c remora skimmer. I know I can order online but I want to get as soon as my breeder sells cause I have a buyer for my biocube already.

Used a reef octopus BH100 in the past, and it was a darn good little skimmer. Another member here is currently using my old one.....

Does anyone know who stocks those. Only Thing I have read with those is the pump inside the tank is big.

I used to have the Deltec MCE300 wow what a good hang on the back pulls more gunk than all the HOB skimmers i ever used and the # one thing is IT IS QUIET! doesn't sound like a toilet clog like the AquaC Remora!

I use the bh2000 reef octopus and its awesome pulls nasty nasty stuff out takes a while to break in though

Well I called underwater world and they will have a shipment in on Tuesday. The carry the two ehopps ones and the reef octopus bh90 and bh100. Now I need my stand sold

Head is spinning. Guess I'm doing to much reading. Guessing I can't really go wrong with either the bh90 or 100, the aquac remora or the eshopps.

Called underwater world and the guy said the only stock the eshopps now cause they like them but can get the reef octopus next day.

The more Research the more different opinions you get. I read a bunch on people saying that a 45 cube water changes would be fine cause HOB skimmers really weren't that good. Head is spinning.

I have BH100...very good skimmer, but pump inside tank is pretty big...

I am hoping to replace my HOB mechanical filter with a Reef Octopus BH90 sometime in the near future.

I like that the skimmer assembly and pump are out of the tank on the BH90 vs. the in-tank pump on the BH100.

Been running my aqua c remora pro for a year now and love it with the new foam insert that goes around the injector I can't even hear it running. This thread is a year old too
