After much thought, I have decided that I my old skimmer with the new pump just isn't cutting it. Don't know what it is, but it just doesn't work like it used to. I am leaning towards upgrading, but just not prepared to spend more than 250 for a skimmer.
I am putting this on a 75 gal reef tank in the 30 gal sump. People seem to like the reef Octopus, but what is wrong with this one? 6 inch one for $225? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4392+24783&pcatid=24783 Is the 400 one so much better?
I would like other recommendations too.
My existing skimmer is a Euroreef with a mag 5 pump on it. The "replacement" pump was recommended, but it just doesn't see to generate the skimmate like it used to. With the new pump, I cannot raise the riser tube high enough to generate good skimmate. It has been about 7 months and it just doesn't seem to work very well anymore.
Thanks in advance.
