Setting up my sump to get live rock going soon. Read a few times that it is not ideal to change salts. I am looking to get feedback to help in my decision. I am setting up a FOWLR tank so not as concered about finicky corals just yet but my second tank may be a reef. Thus keeping that in mind as I would want to want use same salt mix setup for water for changes, etc. What do you use and why?

Agreed for a FOWLR go with cheapest salt which is instant ocean. Not worth getting the higher priced salt mixes that have more bells and whistles. You can also save some money by keeping the salinity lower than the normal reef range of 1.025-1.026.

How big of a deal is it to swich salt on a FOWLR if I choose to add a reef later?

Easy... And there's plenty of larger systems that successfully use instant ocean for their salt and even you want to upgrade salt mixture in the future it wouldn't be an issue either. I've swapped out salt mixes at least three times in my current setup without any negative effects only positive ones!

Yeah, for FOWLR I think the risk of switching salts is very minimal. I been using Instant Ocean for all my tanks over the last 25 years, most of those tanks were full blown reef systems.
