Blue throat

Finally got the right Blue throat trigger, for my tank. He's been in there a day, but he is so shy. He is eating myss, as long as I am no where close to the tank. When I try and approach the tank he just vanishes. Anyone else with experience on these fish, witness this?

I just got one a couple weeks ago. He is just now starting to swim around rather than hide.

They pretty much all do at first. They start coming out more and eventually are out all the time.

Interesting. I didn't realize they were so shy. There have been some awesome ones on Diver's Den the last couple months...

Extremely shy fish especially the females. It's my favorite fish with a great personality. It will take quite a while but it will eventually follow you around the room and do a rock like a boat thing when it sees you. The male I have does anyway. Female is still shy after 5 years.

They are extremely shy fish for at least a couple of weeks, then they come into their own and will be out all the time. Mine ate mysis like crazy, he was a machine eating it all until it was gone. I ended up having to get rid of him once he started blowing all the sand from the corners of the tank covering all my corals on the sandbed.

Blowing the sand is breeding behavior. Odd he would do that without a mate. My pair spend the entire day cleaning the area they will breed in. They blow the sand and move the rocks but not so much to disturb anything with it. The colors on the male change with his body turning lighter and the blue throat intensifying. They breed late in the day so I rarley see it being at work. Over in a flash and it's eggs for dinner for all the other fish.

He would do it everyday while we were at work, and I would come home to a mess and pissed off corals.

Love that fish , I'll def. be getting one soon . and from what I know about them so far is that yes they are shy , they are almost def. reef safe but can re-arrange some of your tank for you lol Other than that still doing research
