Broke the glass in my aquamedic MH

~Flighty~

Now with more baby
Arrrg, I just broke the glass in one of my MHs. Splashed water on it.

I know I have to keep the light off on that side until I replace it. Any pointers or ideas on where to get a temp or perminent fix?

Did I mention that there ar 40,000,000 pieces of glass in the tank now?

pm sent...

I think she means the uv glass that is used on DE bulbs...I dont think she would be as stressed if it was just a bulb.

yup it was the uv glass. I always keep an extra bulb around, but never though about how the glass breaking would have me just as much out of comission. Stupid Cindy

it can't be just regular glass it must be UV glass. but yes any glass shop can cut it for you they just might look at you funny until you can get them to understand the type of glass you want. for some reason the glass shops are idiots about UV glass around here......

I'll see if I can get a glass shop to do it. I wonder if I should lengthen my lighting cycle and rotate my fixture once a day until I figure something out.

revkev, all they use is tempered glass. Because of the way tempered glass polarized light, it tends to kind of chop out the UV.

Yeah, they just slap the UV-glass logo on it and charge you more money.

Tempered glass will do fine.

I thought you couldn't cut tempered glass after it is tempered?

~ 1200 ? F

I'm just curious Cindy. What are you doing about all the glass in the tank. That's my worst nightmare. I would be afraid to put my hands in the tank after that.

Ignoreing it and hoping it goes away :) It is all in the little squares like car window glass does, so it is pretty easy to pick out without hurting yourself. the problem is it is deep in the structure of the corals and under rocks and arrrrrggg. I'm wondering if there is going to be coral tissue damage visible today from the hot glass sitting on the coral. You could see the heat lines (what are those called , Nate :) ) in the water.
