bubble counter valve not reliable

I have the integrated co2 tank regulator with the brass valve and bubble counter made by milwaukie I think.

The problem is, after a week or so the bubble count is slower, and I would have to clean it out by taking it apart. that affects the output of the effluent alk levels.

Anyone have any secrets for making this less troublesome, and a steadier bubble count? or else any recommendations for better bubble counters?

This could also be a result of the input pressure to the valve decreasing, write down both the bubble count and pressure (not tank pressure but regulator output pressure) and next time you notice a bubble decrease compare the results. When setting a output pressure with a regulator its best to open the needle valve near full flow then adjust the regulator to the desired operating pressure then readjust the needle valve to the desired bubble count. The regulator output pressure you select will depend on the size (Cv) of your needle valve, a good place to start would be to open the valve half way and adjust the pressure to obtain close to the desired bubble count, note your valve input pressure (regulator output pressure), this is about your operating pressure.

Do you know a good starting point for regulator pressure? I've been using 10 psi and I also have a problem with consistent bubble output over time.

My regulator pressure seems to stay consistent but the bubble count varies. I'm wondering if a higher pressure would make for more steady output?

I have heard that the milwaukie products are not as good as others. I use an AB regulator with no problems. You may want to talk to Scott as well I don't think he is a big fan of milwaukie

Jimmyj7090,

Try as in my post at 10 PSI adjust your valve about 1/2 open, if your flow (bubble count) is way to excessive like a fast streem the valve orifice is to large for the desired flow. The only thing that can then be done is to lower the pressure to the valve but if you go to low you will exceed the lower range that the regulator will control at, your other option is to get a more suitable needle valve.

Thanks Jim, will try readjusting the pressure as you say.

Jim?

what do you reccomend for a needle valve? I've been using the $20 ish ones from marine depot.

thanks

I have the Solenoid in stock and can have the regulator shipped to your door this week if your interested.

Scott,

Would you reccomend that specific regulator, or are there others you would suggest looking at also?

I'd be interested, could you PM me a price(s)?

thanks

I have a bucket of other brands that were all terrible including the milwalkee. they leaked, the gauges didn't work after 6 months, couldn't keep a constant flow...
I have since switched to AB and although they were a bit more money, i am glad i did it. no more headaches.
