bulk head direction.

nitrofish

reefing again!
I goofed up and ordered slip x threaded bulkheads, but it was the reverse of what I need. I was wondering if it really matters what end is inside the tank? if I put the bulkhead in backwards it would solve my problem. but would it leak?

Just keep the gasket between the tank and bulkhead flange and you can place the flange inside or outside the tank.

Jeff so which end of the b/h is the thread on? Why cant you use the thread on the other side?

the threads are on the outside. normaly it would be fine, but every peice of plumbing I bought was the exact oppsite. I have all threaded line lock and strainers inside the tank and slip elbows and durso standpipe outside.

I think ill just use them backwards. they allow me to push the tank further to the wall and I don't thing the extra stuff in the tank showing looks that bad

Jeff just get the male thread part from the home depot. ;)

Actually it does matter. And you can't reverse it.

Tim has a good idea, just put the gasket on the nut side, might seem like it will work but in fact you will get salt creep from water that chases the threads. My guess is if the bulkhead is subjected to enough head it will probably even drip.

Best bet is to install it the right way and get adapters.

Oh and don't ask me how I know this. Experience is that thing you get, just a bit later than when it could have been really helpful.

I have used them either way just make sure the gasket is on the side of the flange not on the nut side. As long as the glass is clean and smooth to make a good seal either side will work.

Yes, just make sure the gasket is with the flange and not the nut. My MTC skimmer uses them this way, no leaks or salt creep.

id almost be better off getting all new bulkheads. do they sell them reversed?

Jeff why cant you have slip /slip? what do you actually want?
