Buying/Advice for a new protein Skimmer

Hey folks,

My brother is starting a 55g tank with coral and is looking for a hang on protein skimmer to put in his sump. He asked me if this used AquaC Remora is worth it, should he just buy it new, or are there better options/recommendations with other skimmers? Budget of ideally ~$200 max.

If he can afford to I would recommend buying new, unless you can see/test it before buying. If he has a $200 budget for the skimmer look at some of the Reef Octopus Hang On Skimmers the BH1000 gets great reviews and recommendations and should be about $180-190.

One more, unsolicited, piece of advice. if you're talking about a standard 48x12 footprint tank; dump it and get something more reef friendly, with more useable real estate. You will end up doing it anyway pretty soon - I'm yet to find somebody who is in love with a 55 gal standard tank as a reef.
