Can A Recirculating Skimmer be fed directly from Herbie style overflow ?

Hey guys,

I have a 80G DT with a 20G 3 Chamber Sump located in basement 5' below tank. Currently I have a AquaC Remora Skimmer and it is not enough to keep up with the bioload in the tank. I was going to buy the Reef Octopus 150 INT and mount it in my sump but the 20G long tank is only 12" wide and the footprint of the skimmer is 12.6" I thought about the Space Saver model but it doesnt have the same reviews. Now i am leaning towards the 150 Ext Recirculating model.

So my question is. Can I plumb the gated overflow pipe directly into the Recirculating Skimmer? I have a Herbie Style Overflow with two 3/4" overflow pipes (one with gate valve, one free flowing) With an Iwaki pump pushing a estimated 280gph flow rate. Is it possible or will there be fluctuations in the flow that will disturb the quiet but sensitive Herbie style overflow?

Also, if someone can confirm i can fit a Reef Octopus 150 INT into a 12" Wide 20G tank without running it laterally that would be helpful.

Many thanks,

- jake
