i have an extra 10 gallon tank lying around myself. I think im going to be moving me tank and with a new stand. I might have to get that 10g going for a sump.

If you can pull it off, I'd do it. It has made a huge difference with water temps for me too - on my 20G (before I upgraded), my halides kept the tank at a good 82 or so during the day, and down to 76-78 at night. Now my tank is always 76-78, even with the lights on.

definitely let me know maybe i can do it....I'm planning on moving my whole tank to another room i dont know how im going to be able to do that. I will pretty much have to empty the whole tank Im probably better off upgrading.

If you plan to upgrade, then I'd probably wait - that way you won't have to deal with the hassle of catching that many more fish, etc. PLUS - depending on what size you upgrade to, the return pump, etc may not be enough (if you bought one now that were suitable for a 38G).

ahh but i just remembered i just got my new lights they are on their way and they are only 36'' so i would only be able to upgrade to a 45 cause of the length. I dont feel like gettin a new light set up. So go ahead send me the specs i think i have an idea how to do this anyway without havin to move the tank.
Right now my tank is not on a stand it is on a 50'' oak dresser. I could take 2 of the draw out and put the 10 gallon in there and then just put the draw fronts back to hide the sump.
Send me the specs on the return pump and everything you did. Cause i will just do the same.

okay... well here's what I did:
1). Had my tank drilled in the back with one 1" hole for the drain. If you don't want to empty out the tank, you can get an external overflow box, but may have to tinker a bit with the noise level and siphon break if the power goes out.
2) Got the clear flexline tubing from home depot for my drain to go into the sump & used the metal hose clamp thingy on the outside of it to keep it in place
3). That fed into my 10G sump, where I used 2 pieces of plexiglass (one about 2" shorter than the height of the tank, and as long as the inside of the tank length ). Then I took one that was the same height, but only about 4" deep, and then connected it at a 90 deg. angle in the middle of the larger piece. Return line on one side of the partition, drain on the other. That left a lot of room in the front of the partition for rock rubble, skimmer, etc.
4).I drilled a bunch of holes on the bottom and the top of the larger piece - about a half inch apart x 2 or 3 rows. That way you can get away with less baffles and not have it sound like a toilet if your water level is low.
For my return line, I used: a Mag 5 with a ball valve attached to it. I used a single return line that I split off at the top with a T, and it enters back into the tank with a couple of those locline connections (can get them at the LFS). I just set up the T with some elbows that hugged the top of the tank (no need to drill this way), and then hooked up the loclines from there.
The skimmer I have is an ASM G1 or G2. Got it from Clamm (at a pretty good price). You may want to check with him to see if he can get you one (or check the threads for used ones).
I don't keep a heater in my sump because I have managed to hide it in my display - it's always a good idea to have a heater in your display anyway - just in case something happens with the return pump. I also have (just in case) a couple of those cheapo clip-on fans that I can turn on the sump if I need to. Haven't needed them yet.
Then I hooked up the HOB aquafuge to the back of the display - it's got a powerhead that feeds the water into it, and then gravity return back into the display.
I'll see if I can take some pics tonight. Hope this helps!
