Can someone ID this coral for me?

I loved it when I saw it. It "Almost" reminds me of a carnation shape wise which I refuse to keep. Would love to know the name and light requirements. I have found these hydra 26 LED's to be very strong so I have it on the sanded. Thanks in advance!

Really a wild guess with that picture but maybe a Stylophora or Pocillopora.

Carnations are softies so I'm assuming it's soft

Not a colt not a tree I obviously know what those are. I'd be in trouble if I didn't after over 10 years doing this lol. I'll turn down the blues and take a pic.

It's odd. It's a soft coral but it feels spiky not slimy like a tree coral or a colt coral.

Here with blues off.

Could it be this

Prickly Alcyonarian Coral

I believe but could be wrong that that is a fancy name for a carnation which in that case I wouldn't be too happy. I refuse to keep any Coral or animal that I don't believe should be in captivity. I love fire scallops or whatever there called but would never buy one.

It is a type of non photosynthesis coral related to the infamous Christmas tree coral. You have to feed it.

It's not photosynthetic? So what do you recommend i feed it?

looks like Stereonepthya. check out the lemon tree coral at liveaquaria: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=597+2341+2512+2597&pcatid=2597

if that is what you have, please please put me first in line for a frag. i have been waiting forever to get one in stock from LA.

That is 100% the coral. Doesn't say I have to feed it but I'll look into it further. Dong let met know what you think I should buy and yes, I'll keep you first. I could actually cut it with my dremel it had 2 stalks what do you have to trade? It really is an awesome coral

Just ordered some phytoplankton to feed it. Dong how often do you recommend feeding it?

that is so awesome! i have a light purple variant of the stereonepthya. my tree is on the sandbed, medium current. i had to play around with placement for a while, but low to medium light and medium flow work well for mine. i will send you some trade options via PM.

While Stereonepthya are some what photosynthetic, their tissue is not well populated with zooxanthellae, so it should be treated as NPS coral.

>looks like Stereonepthya<

I agree. Very difficult to keep alive. Just need too much small particulate foods for our tanks to support. If you feed it enough oftentimes you will end up with a very high nutrient tank which will encourage nuisance algae to grow.
