i came upon a tiny 3/4 inch blue and white caribean lobster at a local lfs and just had to have it.its growing pretty fast and my concern is that it may be attacking unsuspecting sleeping fish,i do have one small-medium yellow tang that appears to be missing, but my other two yellow tangs were always chasing him ,so they may have killed it .anyone know about the habits of these lobsters?

All lobsters are chancy but if you keep them fed you have a good chance it wont eat any of your fish. I have had lobsters in the past that I kept fed and they were model citizens. I have a large purple lobster now that has been doing fine for almost 2 years I just make sure I spot feed him.HTH
I would love to see a pic of your lobster can you post one?

I'm glad you talked about compatibility as I wanted to get a purple lobster but had some reservation. I have a coral banded shrimp, a yellow goby & pistol shrimp and thought they'd get eaten. So how do you target feed & when. Does he come out when lights on?

No he stays hidden during the day comes out when the halides go off. I know were he hides so I shoot food with a turkey baster into his layer. I also had a bandit shrimp and several peppermints and he never bothered them unfortunately I lost the bandit and peppermints in the power outage.

well, I went ahead and got this purple lobster
hope I didn't cause any undue stress for my bottom dwellers!

here is the critter I got from Petcohe looked active & responsive)

Just remember to keep him fed. I feed mine pieces of silver side.

oh-oh what have I done, everyone will be gone soon...
yes, I usually spot feed my corals scallops or pieces of steamers
so I can drop something for him/her
how often do you feed?
hope he finds the food I leave and it doesn’t putrefy

I feed it a pieces every other day. I found that once it found a place to hide it stayed there so just shoot the food in the same spot every time and it will find it. Plus it will scavenge anything it finds on the bottom.

I guess it just goes to show that each tank has it's own "personality" and that most guidelines about compatibilty can be thrown out the window, hahaha. I couldn't keep any other shrimp or crab with my coral banded shrimp. This thing is a territorial grouch and thinks he owns the whole 55g! Thank God I like him! I want to get an arrow crab since I have many tiny bristle worms that are starting to get larger, but with my CBS I don't think it would work out. My CBS attacks my fish too, but my fish aren't bothered by it, in fact when my CBS tried to attack one, the tang bolted and ripped one of it's claws off since he didn't let go in time. Weird thing is, the claw grew back in one molt!! I too target feed, but that hasn't done much to curb it's territorial tendencies!

well it's been a while but my lobster is as happy as a pig in ????
glad I got him
