Some of the prices that companies try to charge for Chaeto reactors these days are ludicrous. In the spirit of reef DIY and to save a few bucks, I made my own. And it’s been growing Chaeto like mad!
- Aquaready HOB media reactor = $73 BRS
- Grow light strip = $15 Amazon
- 220 GPH pump = $15 Amazon
Wrap the lights around the reactor, zip tie to hold and connect the pump and outflow. 16 hrs light, 8 hrs dark and it fills up with Chaeto. In a month it got so full I had to use a drill to loosen the strands enough to get the bottom plate out to thin it. Great nutrient export.
If anyone needs a Chaeto reactor, this is dead simple and $100. Plus it hangs outside my sump so little real estate needed. Maybe 4 x 4 x 15 in tall. Easy.
