Hi guys,
One of my chalice's are showing white blotchs. Is this bad or does it appear to be forming new eyes? I see around the white blotchs the skin of the chalice is actually swirling itself which was why i initially thought a new eye was forming. Any info is appreciated.

reefcentral had some talk about this
2 things i can only think about

1 new eyes
2 black bugs which are like red bugs but attack lps theres a thread on it on rc

if its black bugs easy fix do what you would do for red bugs

I hope its not black bugs. my tanks nuisance free as far as I know. The worst thing my tanks ever had was Dino and Cyano which I man handled with strict husbandry. If it were black bugs I would think i'd see it affect more than just this single chalice.

So i'm assuming by the little amount of responses either nobody has chalices (which is soooo not true), or you hit the nail on the head and i have nothing to worry about if infact the white swirls are new mouths. If it were more distinctive of black bugs someone woulda came out already most likely and +1 it.

Kinda looks like bleaching, hows the light and flow in that area.

it was extremely low on the sand bed, the Par was about 20-30. (i changed my bulbs and the order was wrong. fixing the bulb order par went up to 40-60) I Just moved it into an area with around 80-100 par.

Previously little to no flow, now decent medium flow.

Calcium was around 300.
Alk was 6.7

Since i just moved I've been lacking. I just recently bumped alk up to 8.7 and now i'm starting to dose calc to bring it up. I brought it up to 350 today. gonna do another 50 tmrw, and maybe a 3rd set of 50 the following day if i dont have to buffer alk in between the doses.

Sounds like your on the right track with fixing your small issues, it might just be a little stressed and bleached a bit. keep doing what your doing and see what happens, just keep an eye out for any receeding flesh.
