I did a test of my B11 air pumps...and found that the salt in the air had caused my batteries (which were suposed to be good to 2010) to corrode.....and obviously the pump wouldn't work either. 
Fortunately, I have a spare (still in the box) I was able to swap in.
You should check to see if the airstone is clogged up too......you'd hate to make the investment in a backup, and then find out it doesn't work over 3 bucks in batteries or an airstone.
