Chevron Tang

I am not making any decisions now, but of the last major fish I can add to my 125gal tank, I am considering a Chevron Tang. Initially disuaded by posts about how ugly they become as adult, recent pictures have proved otherwise, and I think this will be the last large fish I try to add.

Right now, I have a 125gal system with:
A mature pair of true percula clowns hosting in a BTA,
A Majestic Angel at just under 5"
A Powder Blue Tang at just under 5".
Five Lyretail anthias up to 2".

Down in quarantine, I have a pair of H. diphreutes butterflies (3" and 2"). I am not sure on their maximum size, but I am guessing 8". In fact, I am guessing all these large fish will reach no more than 8-9" in the next three years.

First, I need to consider whether the tank can even accomodate another large fish. With the two Heniochus, the PBT, and the Majestic Angel, that's four large fish right there.

Second, I need to consider whether the PBT will be overly aggressive to the Chevron Tang. My suspicion is that if I get a Chevron Tang small enough, and because the Chevron and PBT are from different genuses, and there will already be Anthias and Heniochus in the open water to distract the PBT, the PBT may be inclined to leave him alone. I will know more about the PBTs ability to accept newcomers when I add the pair of Heniochus.

Finally, I don't have a lot of algae cover in my tank. I assume they will eat from an algae clip, or can be taught to do so.

matt,

I have no experience with a Chevron but if like most tangs you should have no problem with a veggy clip.

All I can add is that my chevron is super well behaved and a great citizen.

Nothing to add about how the PBT would be, or the bioload, but your thinking sounds very reasonable IMO.

i think bioload wise you would be ok, maybe pushing it a little... but you have a good protein skimmer =).

you may run into some issues with the pbt and the chevron, but if you want the chevron its worth a try =).
