Chipped corner

So long story short my buddy got burnt on a tank yesterday. He either wants to fix it or possibly sell it to recoup some of his money. I maybe interested. It's 3/5" glass and the chip doesn't seem to go all the way to the seam. I'm going to go by and help him move it out of his driveway and clean the silicone that's smeared on the outside to see what it looks like. The prior owner told him once dropped in his driveway that it has a plate of glass given to him from water box silicone on the inside but never leaked. What's the chances that it's fine to epoxy the outside so it's not sharp and the thing will be fine. I can get it for a good price if he doesn't keep it or is it just asking for disaster?

If you're worried the tank is compromised and asking for people's thoughts, ask yourself this.....will you ever trust it or will it make you worry?

I think you'll find the right answer. I've picked up cracked tanks and repaired them so its not a lost cause, just a lot of work. Currently rebuilding a Red Sea 900. It was dropped and cracked on the bottom. Red Sea tanks fall apart anyway so it made sense to disassemble, clean with with acid to remove ALL silicone, then reassemble with correct silicone adhesive. Notice how I said adhesive and not sealer?....hint, hint.

Brad's glass in Canton has been good to deal with for panels. Both regular and low iron cut to size. Last panel was 1/2" Starfire 24" x 24" for $175.00. They even made the bevel match on top surface!

Got to know I appreciate that. So I will talk to him and possibly make this into a project. He sent me this pic of the glass panel water box sent him to put on the inside. I still have to get there and try to scrape the outside mess to see how far the chip goes.
