anyone know how usefull cleaner shrimp are?

They come in handy, BUT if you like to over feed the tank then they are tad useless. Why pick off fish when the mysis is everywhere!! I love these shrimp they are my favorites in the tank!

Good question,
I am about to buy 2 cleaners as some of my fish are doing the
occasional shake and shimmy on the rock or gravel.

I assumed some critter the cleaner will take care of...

Yes they do, and if you put your hand in the tank near them, they clean your hand, i love it!

and what are the chances of me buying a powber blue or a hippo tang and just in case they do develop the ich will my cleaner do a good job?

No guarantee at all. I have some fish that will let me cleaners clean them and others that want no part of it. Another thing that you can try as well are neon gobies which are also cleaners.
