Cleaning old gear

Swimmin With The Fishies
I am looking to clean up some old powerheads. Any suggestions? They seem to be covered in just salt...but do I need to do anything special for the internals?

Soak them in a bucket with a water and distilled white vinegar mix for a few hours, better to do longer. Then all of the grime including coraline algae will come right off.

Good luck and enjoy.

I generally take my power heads apart and soak them in hot water and vinegar solution.
Then I'll put them back together after an hour or so and run it in the same bucket.

Sounds great!

Any thoughts on cleaning light fixtures(particularly the fans) or do the same?

Oh and what is the mixture you guys use for water to vinegar? or do you just toss some in and go for it

Yep

Not sure I would try the soaking in a bucket part on the lights though. :D

Lights I would just wipe down with water vinegar

I usually take them apart and soak them in straight vinegar for a few hours, more if needed. Do not let anything with a rubber seal sit in it for more than 6-8 hours as straight vinegar can some times damage them.

Thanks everyone. now I can't wait to go home and clean haha...never thought I would ever say that in my life
