colors on my sps have gotten alot darker

JTM4UG

REEFER
lost alot of the colors on my red planet and shrek digi colonies. used to be very bright and glowed under actinics but now the shrek digi is a dark green and the red planet is a plum color(used to have alot of metallic green in it). any ideas on what it could be. only thing ive changed lately is i have been ramping up my light a little more and i started dosing purple up once a week with a half cap. I have a AI sol for lighting

Assuming it's not a water quailty issue, any change in lighting will bring a change in coral appearance. SOLS are powerful and I noticed many times that some coral colors darkened considerably under them. Give the corals time to adjust (weeks or months) to the higher intensities. I had a red planet under SOLS at 100% intensity and it looked amazing with that green base and deep beautiful red. It is notorious for changing colors when anything in the tank changes. Right now my new red planet frag that was red when I got it is quite brown.

There is a really nice thread in reef central, the name is something like: essentials of reef keeping. Somewhere between page 9 and 22 they talk about why corals turn brown.
If I remember correctly it can be a few different things such as lighting, water temperature, phosphates...

What gains are you looking for with purple up? Just curious, there may be a better route than "purple up"

Also how long have the corals been in your tank?

Looking for convenience. I was just dosing kalk but heard good things about purple up and thought I'd give it a try once a week I do a half cap which is half the dosage on the bottle

-1 on purple up.

I know from personal experience that the red planet can go from neon green with pink to a deep red depending on the lighting.
I think it's mostly because your ramping up your lighting, if you want those colors back in the red planet put it lower in the tank and I bet they'll come right back. Probably the same with your digi.

OK sounds exactly like what I'm going through. Had the metallic green and pink and now it's almost a burgundy red. I'm going to move it to a med spot and see what happens
