Come and LOOK!!! Red Carpet Anemone

Buying an anemone is always a gamble, even when it looks great. No one can blame you for trying though. They are so beautiful and add so much to a tank, especially with a lot of hosting clowns. I've had my gigantea about seven years now and I feel very fortunate. The vendor you used is a good one, so I would asssume some sort of refund will come your way if the fault was theirs. I can't access the pics you posted, and you sound well versed in anemone care, but if it still lives and is not falling to pieces, I would give it lots of light, 80 degree temp and moderate to robust water flow. Don't attempt to feed it. A prayer couldn't hurt either.

i can understand when anemones arrive in poor condition, but the injury (as shown) to the rim is NOT a result in overnight shipping, this is a "machenical" injury.

he is what i was shown pre-ordering

Wow. I can't imagine what could do that during shipping. Are those white areas infected and sliming off or just damage? You still might have a chance of survival. Take a turkey baster and gently blow the dead stuff off of it. Use a lot of fresh carbon for the next several days. It almost looks like it had a run in with a powerhead!

That is probably the same anemone. When they expel water the color deepens just like that and the difference can be all in the way the flash and camera picks up the color. I don't see any reason to assume that that is a different animal. As to the damage, anemones are the consistency of jello filled bags. When they start to degrade it can happen in a few hours. I can totally believe that they sent out the anemone pictured and it arrived as you show. There is no stretch to have it get that bad during the shipping. They can be much worse and arrive as a bag of cloudy water. The damage you show is consistent with necrotic tissue from shipping stress. Think of it as RTN of a stony coral and you will have a better idea of how quickly it can go.

I'm not saying they didn't send out a sick anemone, but without a picture as it is being packaged, there is no way to know. I do know that this company has called and canceled an order that I placed because the anemone in question wasn't looking good in their tank.

Don't give up on this one. They can pull through much worse and there isn't much of a way to tell if it is a fatal problem. It will look much better once it attaches. In this shot it is constricted and moving its foot as would be expected in a new tank.

Anemones can be the pride of your tank and they can be heartbreakers.

i dont know if it's infected, keeping a closely look at it at all time now.

I think you've got all good advice here.

Good luck with that beautiful nem.....

Maybe the way it was laying in the box or the box itself a portion of it was in the oxygen section of the bag and that tip dried out because of that?

Do you think you should help pick a spot if it has not attached? All my carpets like to attach to the bottom of the glass so remove most of the sand in a u shape rock formation. I would start with low to medium flow and not feed the anemone as mentioned. It does not look as bad as you think it should pull through have a positive out look. Looks like a gem. I know what ever we say will be hard to take when your upset.

(His foot is injured also) otherwise i would try to dig out a bottom for him.

right now he attached to a rock close to the sand and i dont want to add more stress/injury by removing him from the rock, he has not moved from this very spot since been in the tank, so i let him be, all i can do now is hope, pray and anything i can to help him recover and live :(

i did try to use the turkey baster to gently remove the dead tissues from the injured area to help protecting him from gettting infected. i dont blast a current at him but attempt to have some alternating moderate current at his spot. i did all i can to help him at this point.

This sucks..

Honestly, I think it will pull through, It sucks that it came in like that but I have seen them recover from worse injury. I still believe you should get some compensation even if it lives and a full refund if not, Good luck. Keep us posted as I would like to know how this was handled by Dr Mac.

I have also witnessed extremely rough handling by shipping companies. Seen "Handle with Care" and "Live Animals" written on box as an employee hurls the box across the room going for a 3 pointer in a delivery sack.
Oh I bitched alright, but sure they were just flipping me off as I left. :(

I hope the 'nem pulls through! It's (potentially) going to be a beauty.

my brother actually just quit ups. he was moving 1300 packages an hour. so you can imagine how carefully they handle even the fragile boxes.

Yea i worked for Fedex. thats all im going to say lol

Any news on how shes doing?

Red Carpet Anemone ship very poorly, one reason you never see me carry them. Out of the four I have ordered over the years I have only had one make it.
That does look like the same Anemone to me, just did not take the shipping too well. It appears that section may have been exposed to air during shipping. (ie. if the package was turned on its side during shipping and the Anemone was attactched to the bag prior)

Best of luck with it, hope it does well for you!
