Controller Advice...

True there would not be as many RKE or RKL's available used at this point. Although both of them are also able to be online and accessible by iPhone. :)

Well my Apex is here, I feel so special.
I feel like I have really come up in the world, (deluding myself just a bit :D )

It made me remember one other reason why I chose the apex. It has 6 digital inputs for things like float switches and sensors, no need to buy an extra module.

Did I mention that my apex is technically a christmas present, so I am going to have to wrap it so the fam can see me open it on x-mas morning.

I actually made a large order from this company tonight and I did order the AC JR. with DC8 package. http://www.aquariumsupplycompany.com/catalog/item/6167126/5973125.htm

With my previous tank between running a Ranco and an APC backup in case the power went out I never had any issues. I didn't even want a controller really but I figured why not if I was going to spend +/- $100 on a Ranco anyway.

Will both the RKE w/Net and Apex allow you to monitor from a remote location over the internet without a dedicated PC?

not sure about the RKE but the Apex will for sure. And not just monitor but you can change and alter settings as well.

Thanks. I travel a lot for work so my main concern is that the controller is back online and fully functional after a power outage. I'd be SOL if it's dependent on a PC.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Apex. Sounds like it's easy to program.

Both the Reefkeeper Elite and the Reefkeeper Lite will let you monitor remotely without a PC. This can be accessed either via the web or the iPhone app.

Just ordered an Apex. One thing to be aware of is the amperage ratings on the DC8's. I have a 1/3hp chiller which draws over 7amps, exceeding the the 6amp rating of the DC8. I had to order an additional heavy duty socket expansion to run my chiller and heaters.

I am pretty sure that the new EB8's for the apex have 2 outlets that are capable of switching 10 amps - but there is a maximum of 15 amps per EB8.

I would go check mine but I already wrapped it up for x-mas.

no you are right Jen, there are 2 outlets on the energy bars that are capable of 10A, but you are only able to have 15A per energy bar so Im not sure why there are 2 10A outlets

You could have (2) 10A devices plugged in and just can't have them both on at the same time.

eg: a heater circuit in one and a chiller in the other. You would never use them both at the same time but each could draw a good amount of power.

That makes sense.

I just got off the phone with Neptune. You guys are correct. Outlets 4 and 8 are capable of handling a high load. Also, I was incorrectly referring to this item as a DC8 (direct connect) when it's actually an EB8 (energy bar) which is probably where my confusion came from.
