Could use some help/advice

I started my first tank in Aug 2013.
It's been up and running since with no major catastrophes - even after a few power outages, etc. I have lost some live-stock but not sure that it was due to anything specific I did.
My tank is extremely stable by now. I do water changes every 2-3 weeks of about 25-30%, and the rocks are covered (as are some of the walls) with coraline.

Current setup:
75G, HOB skimmer.
~75lb LR
2 TaoTronics LED dimmable
Heaters, Koralia, etc
Livestock:
1x Birds Nest Coral
1x RBTA
1x Clown
2x Benngai Cardinalfish
1x Yellow Tang
1x Green Chromis
1x Lawnmower Blenny
Some snails & crabs for a CUC

Having said all that, I neglected maintenance a bit over the last 6 months or so, aside from water changes....due to finishing school, finals, etc... BUT now I am ready to upgrade and dedicate some more time. I already acquired a 240gal RR that I want to turn into a peninsula tank.
I've figured out how to run the water lines into the basement, so that my sump, water changes, etc..can all be done in the basement while my display tank is upstairs.

I would love some advice as to what kind of pumps, water movers, skimmers, etc - I should be looking into. I want to make sure it's enough for the tank. I have 2x 40 gal tanks that I can use as sump(s).
I also would appreciate opinions about flow systems, since I will have to customize how the water overflows in the corner of the tank, and comes back in. The current (4x) holes that were used for dual overflows will be plugged, but I have been toying with the idea of using one of them with a PVC pipe embedded in rocks as a return.

Best,
NL

If you have room , go bigger with sump pump wise you are going to need a pretty beefy pum to make it from basement to tank and still have enough water transfer . you'r going to want about 1500 gallon an hour at least with a tank that size . and a skimmer rated double the tank/system volume . RW 20's for flow or a gyre , ( those things are awesome )

If you pump is in the basement I would consider a Pentair intelliflo 3hp digital pump. About $800. It will run everything you need to run. Seems big but I'm running my whole system at about 200 watts. Makes no noise. Totally adjustable. I'm in Hudson NH and you are welcome to come check my system out. Also check out my build thread.

I definitely may take you up on that, currently working in Nashua so it's just a quick hop over to Hudson.
Going to the basement where I'd like the tanks set up (right by utility sink, RODI) would be about 8 linear feet, 1 corner (could do 2x45 instead) and about a 5-6 foot height differential.... I am trying to figure out how much power I would need to get 1500-2000GPH through that, also my other issue is that I would trying to do all this though 1 or 1.5" pipe.

Head is head , bigger pipe equals more volume . put it like this , stand a 10 ft piece of 1/2 inch pipe and a piece of 4 inch pipe , the pressure per square inch is the same at the base so the larger pipe wont affect the pumps ability to push water . the down side is the pump can only do so much volume as well , so it ay slow the water down a bit . decreasing velocity but not how far it can pump . 1.5 will be fine then reduce it at the end close to where your return lines enter the tank and you should have plenty

woof.. Just feeling a bit overwhelmed. It's a large project.
I also will likely want to build my own overflow box because the dual overflows were removed in order to make it a peninsula tank. Started looking into DIY's of those today, and will definitely be using a gyre for flow.

Thankfully its still the early stages....

Go big or go home right ;)

I have never run a basement sump so I can't really give advice except to plan out the details and ask for opinions on products.
