has anyone ever tried to cut down a tank to make it shorter?
trying to figure out how to do a sump on the upcoming 180.

I have a 55gal but i think its going to be too tall for the stand

most of them are tempered now, shatter city!

you could use a 33L or maybe 2 20g longs, one for fuge one for sump.?

The problem with any of these tanks as a sump for a 180 is the width.
The 11.5 inch usable width makes skimmer selection challenged to the point of needing an external or a modified internal.
Is there a reason why you can't use an 18" foot print?

I have 22" to play with, I have been having trouble finding a wide sump that does not cost a fourtune,

40 and 75 both great choices,
seriously spend a little bit of money and set it up right the first time. You will thank yourself down the road.
Used 75 are not hard to come by and usually go for $100 or less.
another option would be a glass cages 65 acrylic for about $100 shipped, they aren't pretty but make great sumps.

I think I am gona find a 40 thanks all for the advice
