Go Big or Go home..
Hey guys. Ammonia now gone however nitrites and nitrates through the roof as expected. No livestock, keeping the temp around 81 Deg. 3 weeks into the cycle. Should I do a small water change or just leave it alone and allow it to continue?

Yeah no skimmer, let it get stinky, nitrites drop to 0 and then do a 50% water change. Wait till you get enough algae growing before adding the CUC. Also, if you plan to put a fish in ASAP you're good, if not, make sure you keep the cycle going by feeding.

Won't the nitrates and nitrites kill any fish right now?!

sounds like you are doing great so far , good advice above be patient and let nature take its course

+1 Patients is the key! Nothing in this hobby goes fast except a tank crash! All great advice above.

Right on. Thx guys and gals. Hopefully the nitrite drops quicker than the ammonia did.

Oh it will take a while . personally to make it a bullet proof system I would wait till the tank reads all zero then dose again with some form of ammonia source and keep doing that till you can read 2 PPM ammonia at night and by morning read zero after what I am going through I would not cycle a tank any other way in the end its well worth it
