Cycling-resetting up?

So as I posted - my tank bit it and I went and got a new one yesterday. I have totes of fish and corals all over my living room lol

When I reset the tank - should I expect a mini cycle? Or a maxi cycle even? It’s been a loooong time since I set up a tank. Rocks were only out of water a few seconds - just enough to move from tank into bins

Should I leave livestock in the totes for a while or is it pretty much fine and I’m overthinking it?

You should be ok with your rock being out of water for a few mins. Possibly a minimal cycle of any

What size tank, and how much new water are you going to mix with your existing cycled water and rock?

Downgraded from a 110 to a 90 (so much easier to reach the bottom)

Minimal new water. Not sure but I know I only lost a gallon or two to the floor the other night (again - how lucky I was literally in the room when it started)

That’s what I was thinking/hoping. Maybe I’ll leave the fish out a couple days and just test it to make sure but - they’ve been through worse haha.

It depends on if you had a sand bed in the previous tank.
If the old tank is bare bottom, there should be a minimal cycle in the new tank as most bacteria are on the rock.

If you had a sand bed, there are two things to consider:
1. Organic compounds in the sand that were stirred and lingered in the old water.
2. Bacteria used to be on the sand but now is gone, as you should not reuse the sand bed due to it was saturated with all sorts of gunk accumulated throughout the years.
so I would reuse as little old water as possible and expect a cycle.

Thanks. I still have sand in the tank with about 8” of water over it. Base rocks and sand are still in there. I siphoned out and removed rocks as they became exposed from the lower water lever. Tried to minimize stirring up as much as possible.

I appreciate the response - and if things don’t make it I’ll have to visit to get some new replacement corals

Please toss the old sand bed, it is not worth to keep.
The base rocks are fine to put into the new tank after rinse them.

I’m gonna dig in this afternoon. Can you suggest what to put in there as new/where to get? I’m in Worcester. Standard 90 tank (you’d think I’ve never done this before!)

DO NOT USE OLD SAND. you can buy some at petco caribsea I believe it is.

You really shouldn't see a cycle at all as your "tank" is not cycled it is your live rock.

There is extensive talk around this subject over on r2r if you wanna read into it

Thank you!

You can always add sand later, just buy the dry sand, not the “live” sand (they are just pollution in bags, as most bacteria doesn’t live inside sealed bags at room temperature, except those oxygen poor bacteria that produce hydrogen sulfide etc).
Just rinse the dry sand really well and use a cup to scoop them into the tank.
