Diamond lights luminarc 3 reflectors

jacqur

This is why I don't surf.
I'm upgrading my MH refectors to Diamond light's Luminarc 3 minis. I'm getting them from www.pacificgardensupply.com which from what I gather is the only game in town.

Anyway there is a great article below comparing these reflectors to others:

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/mar2003/feature.htm

The L3s, and L3 mini are $109.95 each($129.95 w/ adjustable socket) + shipping. I spoke with Dan at pacific garden supply and he says that if we get 20 refectors (any of the lumenarcs, L3, L3 mini, L4) he will wholesale them at a savings of about $40 each plus we save on shipping.

Ends up $90 for the L3 minis w/ adjustable socket mounts.

Here I am guaging interest. I'm needing 3 which means 17 to go. If we get the interest prior to the meeting then I will see how to coordinate with an LFS or something convenient for the Boston folks.

These are great reflectors, and I understand that they are now making them so that you can side a shield pane of glass in easily (I had to modify mine to do so). Just make sure folks know the dimentions of these, I think they are 20x20", so you need a large tank for them to fit over.

Good idea Greg.

LA3 dimensions 19.5" x 19.5" by 8.5"
LA3 mini = 14.5" x 14.5" x 6.5"

Of course plenty of info on the web, Reefcentral must have 20 different threads about these things, and I know quite a few BRS members are using them.

FYI, my experience, when I was investigating a bulk order from PSG for Lumenarc's was that they were willing to negotiate. Maybe things have changed, but every time I called, I was quoted different prices. They were nice people and I would do business with them again, but I would definitely recommend pressuring them a bit on the price and see what they'll do.

I'll also second Greg's recommendation to make sure you get the specific dimensions and that everyone knows it before they order...

they are not the only game in town, although they produce them.
You could also try aquaria usa, i found same price but cheaper shipping. They also ffer a dicount for quantities over 5 and then a bigger discount when you get over 10

if you guys are serious about a group buy make sure to post to other local groups...when we had Liams reflector at the LIRA show...it got alot of attention...I mean ALOT!

Conn. Tri-State or Maine

personally i would'nt drive to mass from maine or conneticut to save $5 or at best $10.

How about for $40, that looks to be the savings :)
besides some of them come to the meetings anyway

many of them have 2-3 friends that come to our meetings...if you are trying to get the number purchased up...its worth a try...

the $40 dollar saving is B^^%%^*t,109 is the going rate, then you need the bulb holder/cable,comes out at $125.
You can only save by ordering above the stated amounts.

I'm not in the loop for the particulars if $40 is good or not. I do know these things have got good reviews and I'd like more usable light from my existing wattage bulbs. I'm swapping around ballasts so now is a good time to upgrade the reflectors.

Here is how my brain works

A - I want these
B- They cost $129 on the website.
C - I spoke with the guy and he said if I get 20 total orders I can get it for $90. Thats the reflector, with adjustable mogul socket for different length bulbs and power cable ~ 8'. He also stated $40 off for the reflector with ordinary socket ~ $70 and $40 off for the L3, L3 mini and L4.

Can also get cable w/ PFO connector if wanted. Not sure about the glass but that's got to be cheap.

So it seems like a good deal to me but I'm not going to hassle myself too much nor subject myself to any nonsense if people are not satisfied. Basically I stand to save $120 so I figure I'll make an effort.

So far sounds like we have 7. I'll let it go for a few more days. I'd like to think that if we fall a few short of twenty we might still be able to get the deal.

I'd be interested if the timeframe was Novemberish.
