Tried something a little different.
Instead of treating the whole system(sump also).
I just shut the return pump off and ran a HOB filter without carbon of coarse.
After 48 hrs. I just turned the return pump back on,ran carbon.Skimmer went nuts and filled the collection cup twice in like 2 hrs.
Well,hope I don't need a reboot for a while.

Treat the whole system not half, the bacteria will linger in filters and sumps/refugiums that have not been treated. Chances are the cyano will be back. Did you also do a 20% water change as the directions suggests? Elevate your skimmer 4 to 6 inches, if an in sump to get control of water circulation in chamber, lower according to adjustment for 4 to 5 days after a complete Chemi Clean treatment.

Deviating from the Chemi-Clean instructions usually doesn't work. The Cyano comes back.

No,only treated the DT.
The rest ot the system,sump...ect is brand new.
I lowered the water level in the skimmer for a few days.Everything seemed to calm down in the skimmer after that.I'm not planning on doing a water change.Water cost money and I don't think I'm going to need to do that.I basically doubled the water volume by adding the sump water back to the system,it's pretty much diluted it.

Oh,I'm pretty sure it will be back anyways....no matter what.:o
I've learned to just live with the fact that this stuff will never die.
I introduced some into a QT tank while adding sand from my display. It seemed to grow out in there pretty quickly and started on the glass.
I basically turned the lights out for a week and just topped of the tank daily.
It looked gone........but came back.:rolleyes:So cutting back light's IME do absolutely nothing to cyano. The tank is in the basement, pretty much no light at all. This tank was not even fed anything...ever....did nothing.
I siphon out as much cyano as I can weekly in the display. It often stays right on the sandbed.
Tank 9 months old (55)gallon
I use RO/DI with 0 TDS.
My nitrates are undectable and always have been.
I don't even have any nuisance algae to speak of(just bacteria).
My phosphate was like .07 checked twice with the Hanna at the meetings.
I have a Maxijet mod that pushes 1600 GPH and a Maxijet 1200.
Just added a 70 gallon sump with a ASM G-2 skimmer to the system.
That's pushing at least 600 gph through there.Time will tell with this now implemented.I'm hoping to strip the water of any nutrients that feed the cyano.
For now I've just learned to live with the fact that cyano and SW tanks go hand and hand.Perhaps as time goes by and the tank ages this will go away completly.But......I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.

Low nutrients, plus good nutrient exort and good flow, plus patience & time should equal no cyano.

That's what I'm hoping for,Jay.
That one of the reason I went with a sump and skimmer.
My ongoing battle with red bacteria.
I started dripping lime water at night.I've been able to maintaine a PH of at least 8 during the night.I'm thinking that this may help the cause also.
I guess I just need some patience.

Not to diverse too much from topic here but when you guys say "raise" the skimmer... do you just mean the riser tube to raise or lower the water level in the chamber? Or do you actually mean raise the skimmer itself out of the water?

I think they're he meant to physically lift it up higher in the water of the sump.I tried this but my arms got very tired.:p
With it higher I would guess the water level in the body could be dropped lower keeping foaming down.My skimmer is a recirculator,so I just deverted water from the skimmer to the reverse durso in the sump and opened the gate valve a little more on the skimmer.

How many times have you used chemi clean now? Eventually the strain of cyano in your tank will become resistant to chemi-clean and turn a dark black color instead of its usual red if you continue using it. Anyways there is no reason it should linger around this long

Do you have enough flow in your tank? How times does the tanks volume of water turn over per hour? If your using a wavemaker you can probably divide what ever the total is by 2. And dont add the full return pumps power that comes from your basement as it doesn't push even half of what its rated up that high.

Nope, not even that complicated. If your sump is 20" tall, but you are only running 9" of water in it......it's only half full. If you build a table that raises the base of the skimmer by 6", then you can run the water level at the same 9" on the skimmer body, but now you have 15" of water in your sump = more water volume.
