Did I Get A Good Deal? (new tank)

I bought a 72 gallon bowfront tank and matching stand from some guy in brighton today. I found it on craigslist and i talked him down from $250 to $200. It looks like its in good condition but i havn't water tested it yet, he swears up and down it doesn't leak and he seemed like a good guy so i beleive him. He had the same tank next to it filled but said he bought a new one because he wanted a built-in overflow, does that seem like a good reason to buy a whole new tank? Im new to tanks/reefing so i want to do it right and make sure i didnt get ripped off and did i get a good deal? Also the stand looks pretty weak for the 700+ pounds not including live rock weight going into it. Heres a picture.

Its easier for some people to spend money than do diy projects so he probly just didn't want to deal with the hassel of drilling and installing overflows...good deal man! Don't worry about the stand it will be fine.

i would definitely take taht tank to the store and have them drill it for you. two holes 1 for draining the water out and one for returning the water back into the tank. having a sump in the stand makes your display tank look so much better and neat. remember you need a sump and skimmer. its not like fresh water where you can use a canister.

yah i know im going to go with a sump, going to buy a breeder and modify the stand if i need to so it will fit under, im not going to drill the tank though. What do you guys think about hang on back overflows?

yah ive decided to go with built in overflow, gonna do it myself, anybody know what the best place is to buy a kit? and will glass shops drill a hole in my tank for me or just some LFS?

i don't know what all the fuzz is about a hob overflow.i use 1 on one of my tank for 4 years now.even shut the whole thing off for water change and never lost siphon.it all depend on what kind of hob u use.

I also have a hob overflow from life reef and the thing will never lose siphon. Even if you lose power or whatever it will drain as soon as the return pump comes back on

Danzig- in on the same page as you lol. I have a 75 gallon and it's not reef ready and I'm thinking of either getting it drilled by Kay's aquatics or an hob overflow box. Not sure what I want to do.

This is comforting because i really just want a hob its much less trouble for me. Im going to try and find a good hob now

I Use a CPR HOB overflow with a aqualifter pump. Had my first ohhhhhh sh*t moment with my tank the other day, the girlfriend calls me up at work: " umm I blew a fuse blow drying my hair and your whole tanks off" this is where I crossed my fingers and hoped everything would start right back up whenvi explained to her on the phone how to reset the breaker, and everything did, like clock work pump kicked on and overflow started flowing. Just my opinion only been using it six months now but flawless everytime after WC, maintenance, power surge etc..

Well for peoce of mind easy maintenance and the same price as a cpr i decided im gonna buy a kit from gl**************s dot com and have my tank drilled just seems logical
