Did I go a little overboard with my lighting??

I just upgraded to MH on my Red Sea Max. I am now running a 250watt 14k MH. However, I was at my favorite LFS today and the guy was kind of taken back when I told him I was running 250 (when I said I updated to MH he assumed it was 150). He told me to be careful as it might be too much. What do you guys think? Is 250 overkill?? The is 20inches tall btw.

how big is the tank gallon wise?

how many gallons are we talking?
what kinds of corals are you keeping?

Its a 34 gallon. Started out with PCs so theres some LPS in there (scolymia, hammer, torch, favia). However with the new lighting I plan to go pretty much all sps from here on.

I ran 2x400 MHs and 2x110VHO actinics on a 75 gallon

Did you mount it in the stock hood? If so, it's far closer to the water than I'd run it. Definately upgrade your cooling or you will cook the tank.

For reference I am running a 250w aquamedic fixture over finnex's 30g tank, Lights are about 20" above tank, mauro is right cooling will be an issue, I have a small fan that does the trick.......whether or not it's to much light.....time will tell.
