Different weird looking growths.

I always forget to ask, but the other weird looking growths thread inspired me! I've seen... well... these weird looking growths in one of my tanks. :) So far I haven't found the right set of keywords in Google to find the answer.

I'm not sure if its a weird kind of algae or something. They are irregularly shaped balls and grow larger somewhat slowly. There are only a couple of them. They don't seem to really spread much. They are sort of reddish purple and have bright orange spots. They seem light-weight and I think they may be hollow.

I'm not actually home right now, but if nobody can tell what I'm talking about, I'll try to remember to post a pic when I get home later.

Thanks!

Any kind of pic will help us understand more if you can get one I am sure you will get a answer.

I think I know what your describing but I don't know a name. IIRC it's a strange algae. A little easier to squish than valonia and they seem to grow bigger quicker, but don't spread nearly as quickly. I'll post an old pic if I can find it.

Edit, is this it?

I was about to apologize for forgetting to post a pic last night, but that pic is it! Anybody know what that thing is?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's an algae.

In my case it went away with no intervention and caused no apparent problems. It was hollow much like valonia, but with a softer skin.

Yeah it doesn't really spread or grow that much and it looks kinda cool. I'm not sure if I actually WANT to get rid of it. Hehe. But it would be cool to read up on it a bit to make sure there's nothing bad about it.
