dino/cyano question

i believe i have dino or cyano on some of my rock, would it be beneficial to remove the rock and brush off the algae in ro/di water and put it back in. ive turned the lights off since wednesday and the algae appears to be dying and i havent gotten anymore on my sand since i changed water wednesday. im also running phosguard through a powerfilter. thanks

No don't take the rock out and wash it with ro/di.This will just kill more organisms on and in the rock, that inturn will fuel the cyano.Just use a siphon hose to remove as much as possible.

Cyano and even dino's should come off quite easy.IMO,cyano outbreaks almost always happen with a new tank. When I first started and had cyano outbreaks on the sandbed,I'd reach in the tank, roll the cyano up like a carpet, then scoop it out.
Resist the need to over feed and make sure your skimmer is working properly.
Dino's can be a lot more tricky. The best way to combat that is by keeping PH levels high.
I had a slight break out in a cycled QT tank last year.Went lights out for like 4 days and topped off with lime water.Knocked them out in no time.Using lime water or(kalkwasser) can be tricky. So I wouldn't recommend using it unless you read extensively about it first.

Dino's will have very long whips extending out from the mat.
I found it to be more brown than red like cyano.

def more brown. still slimy but grow like a daisy chain....i think a lot of new tanks tend to get it due to lack of flow. make sure you are turning your tank over enough. around 20x imo.

i dont know how many people have tried it...but ChemiClean has done wonders for me. i had some dyno...put a dose of that in...did my h2o change 2 days later. donebar. and i had it EVERYWHERE. it worked very well in my 29..which is fairly overstocked with all sorts of inverts. its easy too...give it a try. like 9 bucks for 300 gallons worth.

thanks to everyone for your help, my ph is a little low 7.9 how do I raise it. my alk is 8 and my cal is 390. I've tried reading up on kalwasser but I need the dumbed down version. is the chemi clean safe with corals

chemi clean is reef and invert and fish safe. just make sure you dont run the skimmer when u put it in, it WILL overflow. also once you start using the skimmer again after the H2O change you'll have to play with the adjustments to get it right again.

kalkwasser: if you can find some pickling lime (white powder), mix 2 tsp with a gallon of water, mix it and let it settle. the water in that gallon now has a PH of 12 (fully saturated) if you drip this SLOWLY (VERY SLOWLY), into the tank it should raise your ph, but will also raise your alk and cal a teeny bit.

if im wrong w/ any of the above info someone plz correct me.

Did you ever have to re-dose your system? I know chemiclean is recomended for red-slime, cyano........... it will work for dyno as well?
