Encrusting organisms and even just calcium carbonate will sometimes precipitate enough to jam a float switch. For any one using something like this I suggest cleaning it regularly, and having some type of fail safe in place if it sticks (either high or low).

Consolidating tanks today, and here another way to do a float bracket. The difference in height is due to the surge that was running in the tank. It can be done simpler, but these were the spare PVC parts available at the house that day.
