DIY glass scraper

While searching on RC, i found a tip that says that you can easily make scraper to scrape your glass to remove algae and such by using pvc pipe with 45 degree slot and a blade connected with it.
Any idea how to actually make it? I think making slots and finding blade from HD is easy but how can you make it such that blade will stay in pvc and won't fall down...Any ideas....

Maybe if you are using one-sided razor blades, the ones that have a reinforced spine on the opposite side from the cutting edge, you could make your slot such that it holds onto that spine. Maybe drill a 1/4" hole in the PVC, and then cut a very narrow slot that ends in that hole. You can slide the blade into the slot from the side, so the spine is captured in the wider hole at the end.

I haven't done this, I'm just picturing it in my head, but it should work.

I made one...it works quite well, but the blade does fall out once-in-a-while. I used a piece of 1/2 inch pvc we had laying around. I used a hacksaw to make the "slot" for the blade. It is about the correct size for a pretty snug fit. Made it at about a 45 degree angle. Took me about 5 minutes for the entire operation. :)

EDIT: I like Nate's idea. The hole idea is good. I will have to make another. Thanks Nate.

I've got a set, one is the PVC/razor, the other is PVC toothbrush. Be careful around the silicone with the razor, that's what I use the toothbrush for.
For the excelsor, maxxim model you can add a siphon hose to the pvc pipe to capture all the algae that you scrape off the glass while you do water changes.

Sounds good guys, thanks for suggetions, i will try it out...
Thanks

toothbrush is a great idea. Why in the world didn't I think of that? I also use a credit card with rounded corners near the silicone. The corners don't touch the silicone, but the edge scrapes the glass.

you can buy a wall paper scraper at Home depot for 7 bucks that is super wide, and the blades are real cheap, if DIY is not your bag.

I bought two from HD, money is not an issue, problem is that, as my tank is only 18" wide, and i have some sps corals close to the front glass, i can't angle the scrapper to remove hard algae without damaging these corals.
If i do this DIY scrapper where i can have blade already angle by 45 degree then hopefully i don't have to angle the pvc pipe and that might minimize damage.
