looking to grow a constant food source for tangs in my fuge
Huh?
There's no better source than just buying it.![]()
just want to know if i can grow something ,so i don't have to buy it?
its not the cost id just like to grow somthing
Trust me,some folks have trouble with just chaeto. And we as a whole have tried to figure out why. It's not worth the aggrivation to grow anything to feed tangs.
I'm growing Gracilaria in a basement fuge. My Majestic Angel, Sailfin and Naso all eat it.
If your ever around Grafton I'll give give you some to try if you like. It's no harder to grow then any other macro.
do you use them as a food source or are they just ornamental?I have quite a few different macroalgae growing in my tank (it looks more like a fuge than a tank). I have Dictyota friabilis and sandvicensis, Sargassum polyphyllum, Sebdenia flabellata, Halymenia pseudofloresia and floresia and even some Halameda copiosa. While the algaes are quite diverse, I keep them trimmed back as a means of nutrient export, so if you are interested in any of these, you are welcome to pick them up. I just don't know how much of it I could provide as it is a small tank. It would at least get you a starter culture going.
I have some Lobophora variegata and have heard from folks I've given it to that their fish love it.
You can try a Google Image search to see it - looks similar to a terrestrial fungus you might see on trees. Grows from a holdfast so it doesn't appear to spread willy-nilly all over the place. LMK if you are interested. I could leave some for you at Mainely Pets in Rochester, or maybe send insulated usps for little $.

Probably true of any macro we could grow, unless we have a largish dedicated set-up for it.
Not to derail - but just noticed your avatar... is that a pidgin chasing your child? Funny...

do they grow comparably fast as cheato?
